Grandparent's Graves.
I'de like to know how to trace the whereabouts of my Paternal Grandparents graves (if there were buried). Where do I start and how do I go about it? My Grandfather died at either 48 Wood Street or 218 Upper Bridge Road Chelmsford. As yet I have no idea about my Grandmother.
Over to you good persons. Cheers, Tony.

The sixth of November 1949. One month and one day before I came into the world. Cheers, Tony.

I've had a fleeting look and it looks very professional and usefull, I shall say thanks very much and go and delve.
Back again, I noticed that their email address is the Crematorium, will they have the old burial plots/areas there as well? Oh well, there is one way to find out!
Cheers, Tony.

Re: Grandparent's Graves.
A polite email request has been sent off. Cheers, Tony.
Had time to 'inwardly digest' the email I recieved from Chelmsford and nothing could have been nicer! A plot number, a map of the cemetery and a map of the town. 10 out of 10 for Chelsford Cemetery and Crematorium.
Going to find my way there soon, bus pass clutched in my sticky mitt!
Cheers, Tony.

Re: Grandparent's Graves.
I know Chelmsford Crematorium fairly well. There are full-body graves there as well as cremated remains plots. It is usual for the local council to operate the crematorium and also control some of the borough cemeteries. There can be some confusion here as both parish and town councils can operate them also. Needless to say that under the Burial Act 1857 (and later the Local Authorities Cemeterties Order 1977) the burial authority must maintain a record of interments so it is likely thay the office at the crematorium will be able to help in this case.
I see from your post that they located the graves, if you go to visit they will be more than happy to guide you to them. They're nice there!

Re: Grandparent's Graves.
As you know the Chelmsford Crematorium Starchild, do you also know the area? The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of popping a letter in the local newspaper to see if I get any replies from Oakes's possibly also doing genealogy. Do you know the name and address of the paper?
Cheers, Tony.
