This lady married a John Dignum. We do not know where....

They had several children including,

Robert in Bethnal Green in Middlesex in December 1844

Ann in Whitechapel in Middlesex/London in 1848

The only Census you will find her on is 1871 which gives a clue she was born somewhere is Sussex (Apolean?) abt 1826.

Her death certificate give no further clues except it puts her birth abt 1824. She died at Mile End in Middlesex the first quarter 1881.

This friend has been looking for the origins of Philidelphia since 2005 and needs to know her pedigree and where they got married.

You will find a few Philadelphia Mighall including one born in 1797 and others born around 1840.

Like any family, the Mighall tend to repeat their fornames over and over.

THis specific Philadelphia Mighall is born between 1824 and 1826 and is proving a pain to track down.

Is this it?
1871 St Mary Whitechapel
Thomas Carlie 19 Ostler Stepney
Ann Carlie 20 Whitechapel
Phila Delphia Dignam 45 Apstead Sussex Mother-in -law
Charles R Dignam 7 Nephew Whitechapel

Charles is on the next page - is he son of Robert? or another sibling of Ann?

Only possible I see is

1841
Horsted Keynes
Richard Mighall 35 labourer y
Mary ditto 10 y
Philadelphia ditto 8 y
Ann ditto 6 y

Next door are more Mighall

William 30
Sarah 30
Mary 9
Joseph 8
George 7
jane 4
Nimrod 2
Mildred 1

Think I find Richard in 1861/71 but as a boarder.

Anyhow, this Philadelphia is too young to be the right one so just ignore me!

I had looked at The Weald and not seen that 1821 Philadelphia Mighall.

I think that may me the one but we still need to find a marriage to confirm it.

And yes, I did mean to say the 1871 census was in Whitechapel.

Just trying to widen the net more:

You say they had several children including Robert and Ann.
As they are not on the 1871 census how do you know and what details do you have on them eg dob and where.
Have you found them on earlier census in case Philadelphia and Robert were living nearby?
If the birth date of 1821 is correct it is just possible that they were married before 1837 and hence the reason they are not appearing on marriage index's

Robert was born 24th December 1844 at No7 Collingwood Street Bethnall Green, Middlesex and his entry in the BMD is 1st quarter 1846 volume 2 page 25.

John Dignum is listed as a Bookseller on the birth certificate.

Ann Dignum was born 4th Quarter 1848 in Whitechapel. Her entry in the BMD is 4th quarter 1848 volume 2 page 6.

There is supposed the be a Charles born about 1845 but I can find no suitable record.

Philadelphia's death is recorded 1s quarter 1881, volume 1c page 415. She died at Miles End.

Thats is what I can easily find as I do not have these people in a tree in front of me.
