Hello from a Rollason-Bishop newbie

by maryperiman » Tue Oct 30, 2012 10:59 am

Hello all
My name is Mary and I am trying to find my English roots.

I am interested in the Rollason family from the Smethwick area, including Bilston. West Bromwich and area.
My great grandfather was Joseph William Rollason, son of Isaac and Anne Hitchings,(born June 9, 1854_, and his wife, Hannah Dickinson, daughter of David Dickinson and Elizabeth Stone.
Hannah was born Jan 16, 1854. Hannah died of breast cancer on January 23, 1897, and Joseph drank himself to death (cause is stated as chronic meningitis) Oct. 22, 1899.

(note by NL post split here and running with separate thread on Bishops)

I really want to get back further, and I know that there are a lot of Rollasons and they ALL seem to have the same name, so if anyone could help me, I would be truly grateful.
My link to the family is my grandparents, Joseph William(b. 1888) and Maude Adelaide Bishop (b. 1888).

Thank you so much.

We have on Bcc Josephs mother as Ann Hunt not Hitchens
Hitchens looks like his first wife

do you have the Hitchens marriage? the full info?
Marriage 1840
ROWLESON Isaac HITCHINS Ann Tipton, St Martin (Pepper Box) 39/1/471

and do you have the Birth certif for your Joseph pls

23 March 1845 St Johns Halesowen
Isaac Rollason- full age- widower- miner- Rowley- Joseph Rollason- Cokeman
Ann Hunt- full age- spinster- Rowley- Isiah Hunt- Bricklayer
Wit- X James Foxall/ X Elizabeth Foxall

If the birth certif for Joseph William says Hitchens then something aint rite with what we have on Bcc.

This Issac maybe another one
as miner on marriage not nailer as on census

23 March 1845 St Johns Halesowen
Isaac Rollason- full age- widower- miner- Rowley- Joseph Rollason- Cokeman

Wit- X James Foxall/ X Elizabeth Foxall

I am afraid that the Isaac and Joseph listed above are not on my line. My Joseph (b. 1854) died in 1899 of chronic meningitis, (according to his son, my grandfather, he drank himself to death after his wife, Hannah, died of breast cancer in 1897.) I have the death certificates, if anyone would like them. I had read somewhere in the discussions, that one of the BC members had found records of a 9 year old Joseph being picked up by the Birmingham police and ultimately being placed in the boys school. Does anyone have those records, please? That might have been grandpa. He did finally end up living with his sister Elizabeth, in Smethwick.
Thanks everyone.

Hi Mary this is your Isaac

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =131690983

marries Ann HItchins in 1840
with her on census note Hitchens on 1841 and 1851
and as proved by birth Certif of Joseph William in 1854 mother Ann Hitchens.

What is odd is that Joseph Rollason at same address in 1841
I just wondered if they were related.
